Black Eyed Susan Macau
Black Eyed Susan ‘Macau’
Of all the black eyed Susans I’ve ever grown, this is my absolute favorite. By midsummer, this variety can easily reach a towering height of up to 6 feet tall, with individual plants producing up to 25 stems each! The miniature-sized flowers are borne in airy sprays, and when added to arrangements, they bring a happy, uplifting quality.
Plant type: annual
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 90-100 days
Plant spacing: 9”
Pinch: not necessary
Approx seeds per packet: 50
How to Grow:
Start seed indoors in trays 8-10 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed.
Harvest when flowers are beginning to open, and expect a vase life of 7-10 days. Rudbeckias are notorious for making their water murky. To combat this and extend their vase life, add a few drops of bleach to the water.
