Breadseed Poppy Rattle Poppy
Breadseed Poppy 'Rattle Poppy'
The giant pale lavender petals of this beauty have dark grape-purple centers. This long flowering, drought tolerant poppy produces huge decorative seed pods that are as large as limes. Breadseed poppies are easy to grow and make a wonderful addition to any garden.
Plant type: annual
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 80-90 days
Plant spacing: 12”
Pinch: not necessary
Approx seeds per packet: 200
How to Grow:
Breadseed poppies resent transplanting and do best when direct sown. Plant directly into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Slugs love them, so keep an eye out.
The flowers of this variety of poppy aren’t particularly long lasting. Cut flowers last just 2-3 days in the vase if you’re lucky. Harvest when ½ open and sear the bottom end in boiling water for 7-10 seconds. Seed pods can be dried and used indefinitely.
