Orach Ruby & Gold Mix
Orach ‘Ruby & Gold Mix’
Orach is one of the easiest to grow and most versatile plants for flower arranging. Early in the season, the leafy stems can be harvested for bouquets, but if plants are left to go to seed, they will produce long textural branches that are an amazing addition to arrangements. This special mix includes our two favorite varieties, ‘Golden’ and ‘Ruby Gold’ (pictured separately here), which both have eye-catching chartreuse foliage and seed wands in a range of dusty rose, muted cranberry, and sunbleached moss.
Plant type: annual
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 75-110 days
Plant spacing: 12”
Pinch: when 8-12”
Approx seeds per packet: 100
How to Grow:
Start indoors in trays 4 to 6 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. Orach can also be direct-seeded into the garden once all danger of frost has passed.
Can be harvested in the foliage stage or once seedpods have formed. Immediately after harvesting foliage, dip the bottom few inches of the stems in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds, or use Quick Dip, then place into cool water. Seeded stems require no special treatment. Expect a vase life of 7 to 14 days.
